One UI 8 Adds Samsung IMS Service for HD Voice, Video and Chat

Samsung just released the Android 16-based One UI 8 beta 4 for the Galaxy S25 users, a few weeks after introducing the stable version on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Flip 7 foldable phones. The latest beta version enhances Samsung IMS Service by adding a new emergency update feature.

What is Samsung IMS Service

Samsung offers IMS service, which stands for “IP Multimedia Subsystem,” on its Galaxy devices. The service is a framework that authorizes multimedia communication services, for instance, voice, video, and messaging over IP networks.

The IMS service is essential for features like VoLTE, enabling voice calls over the LTE network, and Wi-Fi calling, which lets you make calls over a Wi-Fi network. Now, with the latest One UI 8 beta 4, Samsung is expanding the ways of the service by adding a new feature called emergency update.

The emergency update feature seems to be convenient to support high-quality (HD) voice, video, and enhanced chat services on Galaxy devices. Via this newly added feature, you might see a pop-up or notification asking for your permission to update and restart the service. Apart from this slight information, the company hasn’t mentioned a brief description of the feature in the changelog.

IMS is crucial for modern communication services, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of features, such as voice & video calling, messaging, and more. Currently, Samsung has added this feature in the beta version for the Galaxy S25 devices; it may expand it to more devices with the final release.
