WhatsApp’s New Update Brings Ads to Channels and Status

WhatsApp announced three new monetization features for its Updates Tab to make it more convenient for admins, organizations, and businesses to grow on the platform.
Meta-owned WhatsApp introduced the Updates tab, which is the home to both Channels and Status, which is quite useful for discovering something new. Currently, the Updates tab is being used by at least 1.5 billion people per day.
Now, WhatsApp has introduced three new monetization features for the Updates tab, which are as follows:
- Ads in status updates
- Promoted channels in the Channels discover section
- Paid subscription for exclusive channel content
The ads in status updates will help users to find a new business and easily start a conversation with them about a product or service they are promoting in Status. However, you must be familiar with this, as it is similar to how ads appear between stories on Instagram. WhatsApp will use limited information, such as country or city, language, and the channels you are following, to offer you ads based on your preferences.

The promoted channels will let you discover new channels that might be interesting to you in case you are looking through the directory. This will be convenient for admins as they will get a way to increase their channel’s reach and visibility.
Channel subscription will let you support your favorite creators by subscribing to their channel. Once you subscribe to any channel, you will get exclusive updates and content for a monthly fee, similar to Instagram’s channel subscription.
Note: This new integration will appear only on the Updates tab, completely separated from your personal chats, which means that the chats will remain end-to-end encrypted.
