Galaxy S26 Ultra to support Virtual Aperture enhancing portrait photography

Samsung is supposed to debut the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026, and the Ultra variant of the line is anticipated to support Virtual Aperture in Portrait Mode.
The Korean tech giant is supposed to launch its next-generation flagship lineup, Galaxy S26, at the Unpacked event sometime in January 2026. Recently, it’s been reported that the company could replace the Plus model of the series with Edge due to its lower sales rate. If this report comes true, then the lineup will include Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Meanwhile, Samsung revealed its strategy regarding its camera developments, according to which it introduced Virtrual Aperature to the new flagship via the Exper RAW app, allowing users to simulate DSLR-style depth of field effects.
Samsung collected more than 200,000 photos taken with both Galaxy smartphones and DSLR cameras to develop this technology. Although it’s a massive undertaking that needs manual control of focus and exposure settings for each shot. Now the company is looking forward to integrating Virtual Aperture into Portrait Mode.
The company is also planning to expand the AI-powered tool and simplify its flagship features to enhance the user experience. The aim behind this is to upgrade the camera’s picture quality by increasing the convenience and accessibility.
Pyojae Kim, who led the development of the Virtual Aperture feature, states, “By continuing to expand the features, we’ll ensure that the photo quality of the best DSLR cameras out there can be fully experienced on mobile devices.”
