Samsung announces new Onyx Cinema Screen with massive upgrades

Samsung is setting new standards for LED Cinema innovation by introducing its latest Onyx Cinema LED screen at CinemaCon 2025.

The Korean tech giant unveiled its latest Onyx cinema LED screens at CinemaCon 2025, which is an upgrade from their 2017 version. The newly announced displays are far from the traditional projectors over the LED panels and are delivering brighter, smoother, and more immersive visuals.

The Onyx cinema screens are based on modular LED panels instead of traditional projectors, which results in true blacks, infinite contrast, and highly accurate colors, the same as OLED TVs but on a much larger scale. The company focuses attention on the significance of innovation in the future of cinema.

The Onyx screen supports 4K resolution with a refresh rate of 120Hz to enhance the viewing experience by making things look sharper and smoother. HDR support uplifts brightness up to 300 nits to deliver more color pop and make highlights look more realistic. Samsung is offering four options to choose screens in different sizes which are as follows –

  • 5 meters (16ft), 10 meters (33ft), 14 meters (46ft), and 20 meters (66ft).

Samsung America’s display chief, David Phelps, stated, “As the entertainment industry looks ahead to the future of cinema, innovation is more important than ever.” These screens are compatible with display high frame rate (HFR) content and support up to 120 frames per second (fps).

Noticeably, the company will start rolling out the installations of this new generation in Fall 2025, initially in LVL 11 Entertainment in Mesa, Arizona.
