Android 16 May Add Predictive Back Support to Three-Button Navigation

Samsung has yet to release the stable Android 15; meanwhile, Google is already actively working on Android 16, which may bring predictive back support to three-button navigation.

Samsung is anticipated to release the stable Android 15 with the Galaxy S25 series on 22 January at the Unpacked event. On the other side, Google is gearing up for Android 16, which reportedly brings predictive back support to three-button navigation.

The new predictive back feature will allow you to preview where navigating back will take you. For now, the predictive back doesn’t work if you use three-button navigation; now Google is set to change with the Android 16 update.

Initially, Google introduced the predictive back as a developer option with Android 13 and enabled it by default in Android 15. It is dedicatedly designed for gesture navigation, which is the intended method of navigation on Android.

According to the report from Android Authority, the predictive Bacl gesture could work with three-button navigation with the coming Android 16. You can easily use it by long-pressing the Back button, which will return the same effect currently available with a long swipe.

Reportedly, apart from this feature, Google is also planning to add changes to three-button navigation, including the highly requested ability to swap the order of back and recent buttons.
