Android 16 Won’t Follow the Alphabetical Tradition After Android 15 “V”

Google significantly follows a tradition of naming its Android OS with a new sweet dish; it’s every new Android OS iteration that associates a new and interesting sweet treat, while this 15-year-old dessert nomenclature of Android OS streak will end right here, beginning from Android 16 as the latest AOSP code hints at a new sweet treat “Baklava” that doesn’t begin with W.
The company seems to be ending the 15-year-old sweet nomenclature of its popular Android OS streak, suggesting that Android 16 OS will not follow the alphabetical sweet dish naming, which was supposed to begin with W.
Traditionally, right from the launch, Google has named its Android OS with several different dessert treats, from cupcakes in initial Android 1.5 to vanilla ice cream in Android 15. However, the next and upcoming Android 16 will not associate any sweet treat whose initial begins with W; instead, the internal AOSP code suggests that it will get its naming as “Baklava,” which is basically a sweet dish of Turkey.
Moreover, this strange rewinding of the sweet naming of the next version hints that Google wants to give it a fresh start. Meanwhile, the recent Android source code (AOSP) consists of a referral, citing a new string specifically named “min_sdk_version,” which is set to the new name, Baklava.
Additionally, when Android 15’s development was under process, Google significantly set and finalized the SDK (software development kit) version and its codename, while as Android 15 reached its first platform stability phase, the Android version became Android 15 from VanillaIceCream. Since the Android 16 development is undergoing, the SDK codename will be Baklava rather than SDK platform version 36, which is more or less not possible as the SDK version should be greater than or equal to 35, corresponding to Android 15.
Lastly, Google’s next Android OS, Android 16, will be named “Baklava.” That might sound strange, but it sits perfectly according to the technical terms of Google about its Android platform development procedure.
