Google Following Samsung’s Auto Blocker sideloading restrictions

Google is all set to release the stable version of Android 15 anytime soon. It’s expected that it could adopt Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 Auto Blocker sideloading app restriction by default.

Initially, with Android 14-based One UI 6.0, Samsung introduced a new efficient privacy and security function named Auto Blocker. To expand the functionality with One UI 6.1.1, it offers a new feature to make it more convenient in terms of security.

Samsung with One UI 6.1.1 removed the option to sideload the application. A new report suggests that Google is also adopting this feature with Android 15. According to reports from Android Authority, Google is looking forward to including more types of restricted settings and roles for sideloaded applications.

Android 15 App Restriction

The new restriction changes include preventing sideloaded apps from listening to notifications, acting as a default dialler or SMS app, running on top of other apps, or acting as a device admin. With this new change, the brand is aiming to add an extra layer of security.

This means that sideloaded applications can no longer be easily accessible to draw over the screen, obtain usage statistics, act as a device admin, and more. However, this setting will allow users to manually choose these restricted settings to be used. It remains to see whether all other Android brands will adopt this restriction with Android 15.
